Beardo

Beardo Review

Movember may have come and gone, but in its place we have witnessed the emergence of Beardo-wear. As to the Beardo’s origins, designer and owner Jeff Phillips talks of how he always became fed up with his face getting cold whilst on the slopes. To solve this problem he sparked the first incarnation of Beardo, putting up with a make-shift scarf. From this first incarnation of a Beardo, several prototypes down the line, we now have the innovative Beardo we see today.

The Beardo includes a beanie hat with a detachable woollen beard. To accommodate all head shapes and sizes, the beard is attached to the beanie with Velcro. The user can then adjust the Velcro settings to ensure a snug fit. The Beardos are handmade with 100% acrylic yarn and as a result the Beardo has a soft and luxurious feel that is also itch- free: perfect!

When test-driving the Beardo on a recent ski holiday we were extremely impressed. The Beardo did everything it promised – keeping the Loveskiing team warm whilst at the same time turning heads with its novelty charm. On close inspection you would imagine the Beardo would allow the cold to pass through the heavy knit stitching, however it is actually supremely warm. Whilst we were testing the temperature dropped to -10°C and yet we were still standing out from the crowd and feeling wonderfully warm in our unique face apparel. In terms of the “wow” factor the Beardo certainly has it: you will stand out in the Beardo whether on the slopes or chilling in a bar. The Beardo literally turns heads everywhere you go!

Although the Beardo design was originally intended for the skier/snowboarders of this world wanting to keep their face warm from the extreme cold, anyone from builders to business professionals have been spotted wearing Beardo’s. The beanie hat is a selling point in itself and will appeal to the fashion conscious public. Beardo’s are not just for the men out there, thanks to the stylish beanie the Beardo looks great on women as well, as demonstrated in our photoshoot of the Beardo. The Beanie presently comes in three colours options – grey beanie, brown beard; black beanie, brown beard; black beanie, blonde beard – although we have been told that future designs and colours are in the mix.

Summary

The Beanie’s are incredibly comfortable, warm and look just as good with or without the beard attachment. The Beardo is most definitely a product for the future, although presently relatively unknown, in years to come resorts will be swamped with Beardowear. All there is left to say is not buying a Beardo is definitely a Beardon’t.
